Identification (ID) Requirements for HS&E Tests

Important Information

To sit the HS&E Test, all candidates must bring valid identification. Please note:

• Only original documents are accepted (no photocopies or screenshots – except e-Visas).

• ID must be valid and in date at the time of the test.

• The name on the ID must match the name on the test booking.

If your name has changed since your ID was issued, you must provide original documents proving the change — such as:

• Marriage or civil partnership certificate

• Decree absolute or decree nisi

• Deed poll

Candidates without correct ID will be refused entry and will not receive a refund.

Primary ID (Preferred)

You must present one form of Primary ID that includes:

• Your full name

• A recognisable photograph

• Your signature (except for e-Visas)

Accepted Primary ID options:

• Passport (UK or International)

• Photocard Driving Licence (UK or European)

• Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) or Biometric Residence Card (BRC) — must include a signature

• eVisa via View & Prove UKVI

Expired BRP/BRC cards dated on or after 31st December 2024 are still accepted (per Home Office guidance).

Secondary ID (If no Primary ID available)

If you don’t have Primary ID, you must present two forms of Secondary ID:
One from List A and one from List B

List A – Must include your name and photo:

• Non-UK/Non-EU Photocard Driving Licence

• Passport without a signature

• European National Identity Card

• UK CitizenCard (with PASS hologram)

• Young Scot Card (with PASS hologram)

• CSCS or CSCS Partner Card (with CSCS hologram)

• UK Armed Forces ID Card

• UK Armed Forces Veteran ID Card

• UK Home Office Travel Document

• BRP/BRC without a signature (expired cards dated on/after 31 Dec 2024 still accepted)

List B – Must include your name and signature:

• Credit Card

• Debit Card

• Paper Driving Licence (issued before 31 March 2000)

Other Accepted Forms

HS&E Test ID Waiver Form

• Used only in exceptional cases when no Primary or Secondary ID is available

• Must include a countersigned photo and the candidate’s signature

• Additional instructions provided in the waiver letter (PDF, 167KB)

Under-16 Confirmation of Identification Form

• For candidates under 16 without valid ID

• Must be completed with a Parental Consent Form

• Signed by a school or college official in a position of responsibility

• Additional instructions provided in the confirmation letter (PDF, 160KB)
