Why take this course
- Career: Holding the National Water Hygiene (EUSR Blue) Card qualifies you to work on clean water sites across the UK, opening up roles in utilities, construction, civil engineering, and environmental services. It’s often a mandatory requirement for positions such as water hygiene technician, network operative, site labourer, or contractor working on water infrastructure projects — proving you're trained to protect the public water supply and meet industry safety standards.
- Qualification: The National Water Hygiene qualification is designed to ensure that anyone working on or near the clean water supply in the UK understands how to protect it from contamination. It's a mandatory health and safety requirement for accessing restricted water sites, such as treatment works, reservoirs, distribution networks, and clean water mains.
- Eligibility: To take the National Water Hygiene course, you must be at least 16 years old, have a valid photo ID, and a basic understanding of English. No prior experience or qualifications are needed — it’s open to anyone looking to work on or access clean water sites in the UK.

Why do you need to take this course?
If you're working on clean water sites or anywhere on the clean water network in the UK (called ‘Restricted Operations’), you'll need a National Water Hygiene EUSR registration – also known as the ‘Blue Card’.
This includes jobs on things like service reservoirs, pumping stations, water treatment works, wells, boreholes, and the mains or service pipes.
Once you’ve completed the training and passed the assessment, you’ll get your digital Blue Card and a solid understanding of how you help keep our drinking water clean and safe.
