Your legal responsibilities for health, safety, welfare and the environment on site, risk assessments and method statements, and how to put safe working practices in place.
How you're assessed
You must attend all 5 days. Your trainer assesses you through exercises during the course, using the XA6 SMSTS Workbook.
The exam
A 35-minute exam on the last day, made up of 25 questions: 18 multiple-choice and 7 short written answers. The pass mark is 81%. For the last 15 minutes you can use your SMSTS (GE700) book and XA6 workbook.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as an NVQ?
No. SMSTS is a short CITB Site Safety Plus course. It's often needed alongside an NVQ, but it doesn't replace one for a CSCS card.
Can I take it online?
Yes. You can attend in a classroom or join a live virtual classroom with a tutor. You must attend every session in full.
How long is the certificate valid?
Five years. Take the refresher before it expires to keep it current.
