What it covers
An update on current health and safety law, recent changes to best practice, and a review of the core topics from the full course.
Important: book before your certificate expires
If your certificate has already expired, you'll normally need to take the full SSSTS course again. We recommend booking at least a month before your expiry date.
How you're assessed
You must attend the full day to be able to take the exam. Your trainer assesses you through exercises during the course.
The exam
A 30-minute exam with 22 multiple-choice questions and 4 safety-critical questions. The pass mark is 80%. You can use the GE706 book for the last 10 minutes of the exam.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as an NVQ?
No. SSSTS Refresher is a short CITB Site Safety Plus course. It's often needed alongside an NVQ, but it doesn't replace one for a CSCS card.
Can I take it online?
Yes. You can attend in a classroom or join a live virtual classroom with a tutor. You must attend every session in full.
How long is the certificate valid?
Five years. Take the refresher before it expires to keep it current.
