Who this course is for
Supervisors, foremen and chargehands. It's widely required by principal contractors before you can supervise or manage on site.
What you'll learn
Your legal responsibilities for health, safety, welfare and the environment on site, risk assessments and method statements, and how to put safe working practices in place.
Before the course
Once you've booked, we'll send you a link to complete a short initial assessment. This must be done before your course starts.
How you're assessed
You must attend the full 2 days. Your trainer assesses you through exercises during the course, followed by a final exam.
The exam
A 30-minute exam with 22 multiple-choice questions and 4 safety-critical questions. You must answer all 4 safety-critical questions correctly, and the overall pass mark is 80%. You can use the GE706 book for the last 10 minutes of the exam.
Your certificate
Your CITB SSSTS certificate is issued 2–3 weeks after you pass, and is valid for 5 years. Book an SSSTS Refresher before it expires to keep it current.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as an NVQ?
No. SSSTS is a short CITB Site Safety Plus course. It's often needed alongside an NVQ, but it doesn't replace one for a CSCS card.
Can I take it online?
Yes. You can attend in a classroom or join a live virtual classroom with a tutor. You must attend every session in full.
How long is the certificate valid?
Five years. Take the refresher before it expires to keep it current.
