Who this course is for
For experienced construction professionals who coordinate or manage temporary works such as scaffolding, falsework, formwork, excavation support and propping. It also suits Temporary Works Supervisors moving up to coordinator level.
What it covers
The TWC role and legal duties under BS5975:2019, categories of temporary works risk, managing temporary works from design to removal, permits to load, alter and strike, the temporary works register and document control, and real case studies.
How it works
Attend the full course in a classroom or online via Zoom (laptop or desktop with camera and microphone; phones and tablets aren't suitable). You'll complete a short CITB initial assessment before you attend. Results are confirmed by email after the course and your CITB digital certificate follows within 2–3 weeks.
How you're assessed
You must attend the full 2 days. Your trainer assesses you through exercises during the course, and the exam takes place on the last day.
The exam
A 45-minute open-book exam with 22 questions: 18 multiple-choice questions worth 1 mark each, and 4 free-text questions worth 1 to 3 marks each. The pass mark is 78%.
Important
The course is an essential part of competence for this role, but attending it alone doesn't make you competent. Competence also comes from experience and is confirmed by your employer's Designated Individual.

Can I take it online?
Yes. You can attend a classroom course or join online via Zoom. You must attend the whole course.
How long is the certificate valid?
Five years. After that you'll need to renew it.
