Who this course is for

For anyone who supervises temporary works on site, including site supervisors, foremen, and scaffolding, formwork, falsework and excavation supervisors.

What it covers

The TWS role and responsibilities, the relevant parts of BS5975, current temporary works legislation, handover, checking and acceptance, when to escalate to the TWC or Designated Individual, and real case studies.

How it works

Attend the full course in a classroom or online via Zoom (laptop or desktop with camera and microphone; phones and tablets aren't suitable). You'll complete a short CITB initial assessment before you attend. Results are confirmed by email after the course and your CITB digital certificate follows within 2–3 weeks.

How you're assessed

You must attend the full day. Your trainer assesses you through exercises during the course, and the exam takes place at the end of the same day.

The exam

A 45-minute open-book exam with 22 questions: 19 multiple-choice questions worth 1 mark each, and 3 free-text questions worth 2 to 3 marks each. The pass mark is 76%.

Important

The course is an essential part of competence for this role, but attending it alone doesn't make you competent. Competence also comes from experience and is confirmed by your employer's Designated Individual.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between TWS and TWC?

The Temporary Works Supervisor oversees temporary works being carried out on site. The Temporary Works Coordinator manages the whole temporary works process on a project, including design checks, permits and the register. Many people take TWS first and move on to TWC.

Do I need any qualifications first?

No. There are no entry requirements, but you'll need a good level of English, as required by CITB.

Can I take it online?

Yes. You can attend a classroom course or join online via Zoom. You must attend the whole course.

How long is the certificate valid?

Five years. After that you'll need to renew it.

Can you train our team on site?

Yes. Target Zero Training offer in-house delivery for groups. Use the booking link to contact them.
